Brighton’s Rocia® Naturals: Healthier Beauty Products Made in Bay of Quinte
Helping people take good care of their skin while making the least impact on the environment drives product development at Rocia®Naturals. Locally owned and operated in the Bay of Quinte, Rocia® Naturals manufactures top-quality, affordable beauty products using all-natural ingredients that are ethically sourced and cruelty-free.
After discovering how harsh traditional makeup remover could be on skin, Rocia® Naturals’ founders, Jacqui Maybee and the late Sue O’Ray, began their journey to provide skincare products that were less harsh for people and more kind to the environment.
So, in 2008, Maybee and O’Ray started their two-year quest of research and study to find ways to move towards offering healthier skincare and makeup choices. Their hope was that in creating natural products they could redefine beauty, putting health first.
They determined that being healthy doesn’t end at how you treat your own body; being healthy includes living on a healthy planet and contributing to maintaining its health, too.
Environmentally Aware From Product Development to Package Recycling
Aptly named, Rocia® is a variation of “roccia,” the Italian word for mineral. The first product Rocia® Naturals sold was mineral makeup, then growing to develop a full line of products including cosmetics, skincare and soaps plus sunscreen and even hand sanitizer. Rocia® Naturals produces its products in small batches to ensure quality and freshness. The products are stringently tested to meet all health Canada requirements.
Quality natural skincare and products can change the lives of the people who use them, making the driver behind Rocia® Naturals’ work very simple: helping others. Even better, Rocia® Naturals offers Canadian-made products using the synthetic-free, organic ingredients and clinically proven actives that are:
- Recommended by natural health-care professionals
- Vegan friendly
- Not tested on animals
- Free of artificial fragrance, colourants and dyes, parabens, harsh preservatives, SLS, SLES and petrochemicals
In 2016, Rocia® Naturals won the Brighton-Cramahe Chamber of Commerce’s sustainability award. A partnership with TerraCycle helped them create a unique recycling solution for used Rocia® makeup and cosmetic containers, ensuring that the waste does not end up in landfill. Customers return their used containers to Rocia®, who then collect and send the containers to TerraCycle. There, each container gets separated by polymer type, cleaned and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.
